The Breakfast Date
3rd November 2013
#latepost
So we decided to meet for breakfast at 9am to finally put to good use the Toast Box vouchers we won from TCBE (The Captain's Ball Event). It was a good week to nom breakfast as there was only one English service and amazingly, none of the guys were playing for service. So we have Clarence, Daniel, Jereld, Ryan and myself at Toastbox.
But that being said, getting up at 7+am was such a torture for all of us. Out of the five who were there, Clarence, Jereld, Ryan and myself are owls aka late night sleepers where 2am is considered sleeping early. And we have Dan, who was actually up late, but of course for a good reason - to watch a soccer match. As a result, WE WERE ALL LATE. But hey, no surprise there ~
We each ordered a toast set, made up of your selected toast, 2 soft-boiled eggs and a hot/cold drink. Of course, we could get this for $2 at the coffee shop beside our church, but we had to make good use of the Toastbox vouchers (although I did suggest going there for lunch to nom the other food stuff. But the response I got was "You go toastbox and you don't eat toast?! Okay lor.. Eat toast then)
Topics discussed was very interesting. Because we were talking about The Vampire Diaries for awhile. Hahahaha. I managed to convince Ryan to start watching it (and Clarence has started too. Yayyyyy). Okay I can't remember what the other topics are. But I did say one embarrassing sentence. So here goes..
I was telling Ryan "Do you know people say that skinny people have small artillery?" And Dan burst into laughter.. And me being blur, continued talking "So when we have small arteries, it gets clogged easily..and we have higher chance of getting high cholesterol". And Dan was still laughing.. and then pointed out that I had said "artillery" instead of "artery" the first time. So yes. There you go. My embarrassing sentence for the day. And Dan fulfilled his quota of being a clutz that day as he spilled his coffee while laughing at me.
So it was a very normal breakfast. We merely concluded that we were getting old. Which is sad.
Okay, take care everybody. Love all of you.
XOXO

Introduction To Cultural Studies lecture notes (30 October 2013)
TV and Broadcasting II
Global media in Cultural Studies
- Media has a big influence in culture.
- The return of the radio in the 2000s.
- Media + film industry = TELEVISION.
Genres specific to Television
Sitcoms- Episodic plots that could be watched over and over again.
Reality TV- Production of reality through simulations (REALITY MIGHT NOT BE REALITY AT ALL). Reality TV is TV's reality.
TV Game Shows- Began with radio game shows and then brought to a visual platform.
(PEOPLE LOVE TO WATCH STUPID PEOPLE. AMEN!)
10:39am. I am hungry.
Lecture starts slamming psychology (Joelle, you might wanna scroll pass this)
- Psychologists say very general stuff which makes people believe that they are telling the truth.
- Psychologists actually don't know you at all
- Psychologists get to go to Norway for 5 months for God knows why, most probably just to make her friends jealous by constantly posting beautiful photos and then her friends in Singapore will look out of the window and feel miserable.
Example of a psychologist manipulating reality TV: Derren Brown.
SOAP OPERAS
Term was created as the creators of Soap Operas were originally soap companies
Example: Growing Up.
- Set in the 60s and 70s Singapore. Show credits include real archive photos of post Singapore
11:36am. He has lost me. Time to tweet.
11:40am. Mission accomplished

D21
Sometimes events are nailed by things people say and do. My 21st Birthday, the party itself was a truly special and memorable one. We remember:
1. Jared making me drink this concoction of Milo-Coffee-Indian Rojak dip and tasking me to guess its contents.
2. Ryan making thou art dance
3. Sarah and Jereld singing "Lean on me"
4. Me doing a core muscle bridge and singing 'Happy Birthday' to myself during the duration of the bridge.
However, there was this line uttered late in the night, during a discussion of Banks, which nailed the night.
"I prefer OCBC bank over DBS/POSB. DBS you have to draw $50 while OCBC can just draw $10. Like that with OCBC i can save more money."
~i dont think the bank is the problem, Xavier.

Blog 01
NOW LET'S WRITE STUFF
Welcome to our new working Lao Jiao blog! A place where you can write whatever you want without having to be criticized until someone reads your post!
Some of you may be wondering why create such a blog. Well, as an avid non-reader, I myself might end up leaving this blog to collect dust but I'd like to give this a try. The whole point of this blog is for all of us to blog about events that happen while we're spending time with each other, in hopes that these memories may not be forgotten. For example, anyone could post about MY 21st birthday. Or about MY 22nd birthday. Or when I finally eat vegetables (touch wood). Any kind of rubbish is suitable in this domain.
I know blogging is so old school and stuff but let's just give it a try. Who knows one day in the future, one of us might be somewhere out in the world, wondering what they ever did while they were "young". At least he or she will know that all that history was written down in this little blog. Let's face it, we're getting old and some of us (EHEM!) are soon to go through some changing phases in life.
Let's all do our part in making this blog work. Everyone is invited to post. Heck, why not each of us have our own page to write our own stuff. Or if you're not a blogger, just take some time to write something nice. Feel free to post whatever is in your heart, or stomach.
.... Just post la dammit....
